Jules Deloffre

Our Jules Collection is named after a French cyclist, also known as the acrobat, Jules Deloffre. He took part in fourteen editions of the Tour de France between 1908 and 1928, completing seven of them. Between 1920 and 1985 he held the record for the number of entries in the Tour de France, and was the only holder of this record until 1966. Deloffre was famous for performing acrobatics in front of the crowd at the finish line of the stages.

What is the isolés category?

In the early years of the Tour de France, cyclists participated as individuals. Although they had sponsors, they were not allowed to work as a team because tour organizer Henri Desgrange wanted the Tour de France to be a display of individual strength. In these years, cyclists could also participate without sponsors. They were categorized under different names, the first being isolles.
